Budelli – a slice of private Italian luxury is for sale. Picture: Wikipedia Commons
WANT to buy your own private Italian holiday island? It will cost $3.2million and Italy gets first dibs. But they’re broke so you’re in with a chance.
The Milan-based owners of the island of Budelli have gone bankrupt. Now the island will be sold off to the highest bidder.
Budelli is a protected completely private island 16km off the coast of Sardinia with incredible pink sandy beaches. The sand on the island gets its colour from microscopic fragments of coral and shells.

It’s considered one of Italy’s gems. So much so that Silvio Berlesconi has a luxury villa on the island. Boats are not allowed to drop anchor within 100metres of its pink sand beaches – keeping paparazzi under control.

While the Italians are not pleased with the idea of the island falling into foreign hands, there may not be much they can do about it.
The Italian state is unlikely to be able to raise enough cash to buy the island. So, if you have a cool $3.2m and would like a private holiday it could be yours.
