Who said you can’t import good weather?

Inside a former Soviet aircraft hangar some 37 miles south of chilly Berlin, a faintly Caribbean idyll named Tropical Islands helps sun-starved Germans make it through their long winter.

Visitors staying in the 200 hotel rooms inside this odd slice of paradise in the middle of Europe can take advantage of seven different spa zones inspired by different areas of the world including Thailand and Africa, thirteen bars and restaurants, a beach, a rainforest, a lagoon and a golf course according to news.com.au. The hangar is so big — it clocks in at over 1,100 feet long — the Statue of Liberty could stand up inside of it.

The resort, which first opened in 2004, claims to have Europe’s largest spa and sauna complex, which costs 34.50 Euros to enter and an extra 15 Euros to leave should visitors fail to extricate themselves from the comfort and warmth by 3 AM.

One imagines many relaxed spa-goers decide to pay the fee in lieu of braving the cold.
