THESE are the destinations rumoured to give you a better chance than most of an extraterrestrial encounter – or at least get you into the spirit. Either way, it’ll be an out-of-this-world holiday.

The US is home to several of the world’s best UFO-spotting destinations, with numerous recordings of saucer-shaped objects flying through the sky, strange lights and little green men.

A good place to start is the 158-kilometre long Extraterrestrial Highway that stretches between Hiko and Warm Springs in Nevada. It can be reached on a day trip from Las Vegas, it was named the Extraterrestrial Highway in 1996 after many travellers reported UFO sightings and strange alien activity along the road. The top-secret Area 51 government base is nearby.

Many people choose to stop for a night at the Little A’Le’Inn in Rachel for a better chance of an experience they will never forget – it was featured in the X-Files and various movies.

And for another quirky holiday, Sweden’s Tree Hotel has a UFO-shaped bedroom in the woods which could have you dreaming of being abducted by aliens in their spaceship.

Chile is also up there on the list for serious martian enthusiasts with its dramatic, inspiring landscapes that are rather alien-looking – and its “UFO Trail”.

And there’s always Roswell’s International UFO Museum – and even a place closer to home. Take a look at our gallery to find out where to spot UFOs in Australia and see the other top destinations.
