AN ELUSIVE Otways big cat is back on the radar after a Melbourne tourist says he saw the beast yesterday.
Anthony Luppino said he was on a walking track near Erskine Falls, just outside Lorne, with a friend when he looked up and saw a big cat ahead.
“It was about 50 metres in front of us … right in the middle of the path,” he told the Geelong Advertiser.
“It looked like a big black jungle cat. It must have heard our footsteps, then it looked up and ran into the forest.”
Numerous big cat sightings have been recorded over the years, including grainy video footage and fleeting descriptions from locals and visitors alike who have reported seeing the big cat.
Mr Luppino said he and his friend had no intention of investigating the sighting.

“We turned around and went straight back to where it was more populated.
“We saw its full length, it was in the middle of the track.
“We were shocked at first and we’re really sure what we’d just seen, so we weren’t that keen to go after it and have a look.”
